I'm sure your videos go into enough detail but it's still a hands on thing that requires as much attention as your basic rudiments. The ring causes huge problems when applying the snare wires because I get a really buzzy noise from the wires, and its exactly the opposite kind of snare sound I'm trying to achieve.Īny ideas? How would I go about reparing a bearing edge? Should I even try? I am fairly new to drums, so I admit I could be tuning it wrong (read the drum tuning bible about 30 times over now and watched the videos) but I really dont see how to get this snare to sound normal. I'm wondering now if it could be because of the bearing edges because, I'm stumped as to how to fix this! I'm comparing this to snare drums I've used in local rehearsal studios, theres definately more ring, its a resonance that begins to build up a fraction of a second after the drums been hit then slowly dies off. I took the bottom head off to eliminate that and the ring is still there, whether the drums free standing or on a piece of carpet. When replacing the batter head I noticed that in some areas the bearing edge wasn't entirely smooth, like small chips had come out of it at some point or another.Īnyway I replaced the heads, tuned it up, and I'm still getting a lot of ring, more than I should be getting I'm fairly certain. So I was sick of this huge ring I'm getting from my snare drum, tried tuning the thing a few times and didn't help, so I decided to get new skins.
